The following crime alert was issued to Oxenford NHW by their Police Liaison Officer but neighbouring suburbs should take note as well - just be aware if  something doesn't feel right it probably isn't - make a note of suspicious activity and report it.

Three homes (so far) were broken into yesterday (19.12.2011) in Regatta Waters

In all of the offences the offender has jemmied or broken down the front door. The offender has then stolen cash, jewellery, electrical items.

The offenders have also stolen Christmas gifts.

We need residents to keep and eye out for strangers etc. and call Coomera Police 5519 5555 if they see anything.

Crime Alert - 30/11/2011

Stealing from vehicles at car parks of Wet-n-Wild & Movie World

 We have had a recent rise in the number of vehicles being broken into whilst parked in the car park of Wet-n-Wild & Movie World off Entertainment Road in Oxenford.


Thieves are targeting items of value left in vehicles.


 We request that you secure your vehicle;  do not leave items of value in your vehicle.  If you have to leave items of value in your vehicle please secure the items out of sight and out of temptation such as in the boot.  This advice is important especially if you visit any of the Theme Parks on the Gold Coast.


 We need your help in reporting suspicious behaviour & vehicles that may help us identify offenders responsible for recent offences.  If you find behaviour, vehicles or persons that you feel are suspicious - without putting yourself in danger, record the registration number and a description or even discretely take a photograph of the person(s) & or vehicle(s) with your 'phone.  You can then email the photo and details to DCPC.Coomera@police.qld.gov.au.  If you feel that they are suspected of involvement in a crime at that time ring 131 444, if you have information and you are sure they are or have just committed a crime please ring police via Tripple Zero (000).

SCAMMERS at work in Willow Vale

Just thought I should let you know so you can pass on to neighbourhood watchers.

I was home yesterday when a man approached asking if I would like my driveway sealed as

‘they had some left over” from a job down the road.

From past experience when I lived at Yatala, I know that these guys are scammers.

They give you ‘a good deal on the bitumen’ and then the first lot of rain, the road disappears

and you can just lift it off with your hand.

Please warn any neighbours not to use them.  They will waste their money.

POLICE RESPONSE TIMES - HOW CAN YOU HELP

Some serious crimes cannot be reported directly to police link. If you ring police link about such a crime the staff at police link will request police to attend or that you attend a police station to report the matter.

We also do not want you to feel that you are wasting police time by reporting a crime to police. By ringing 131444 direct you are saving police time.   Also if you do not report a crime, police will not be aware of where crimes are being committed.  In order for our patrols to be effective in preventing crime and catching offenders, we need to know where and when to perform our patrols.  Reported crime assists in planning police patrols and is used to warn other residents of crime patterns in their area.

Remember if a crime is in progress ring 000 – or a serious crime has just occurred such as armed robbery ring 000.  For non urgent matters ring 131444. 

Speed
Q: How do I know that the speed detection device is accurate?

The testing and accuracy calibration of speed detection devices is in compliance with the relevant Australian Standard and the manufacturers guidelines conducted on a yearly basis. The police operator also field-tests the devices before and after each use in compliance with the necessary requirements as outlined by the manufacturer, Australian Standards and Queensland Police Service policy.

Q: What are the current penalties for speeding?

Current penalties for speeding are:

• Less than 13 km/h over the speed limit: $A133 + 1 demerit point.
• At least 13 km/h but not more than 20 km/h over the speed limit: $A200 + 3 demerit points.
• More than 20 km/h but not more than 30 km/h over the speed limit: $A333 + 4 demerit points.
• More than 30 km/h but not more than 40 km/h over the speed limit: $A466 + 6 demerit points.
• More than 40km/h over the speed limit: $A933 + 8 demerit points and 6 month suspension.

Queensland Parliament e-petition for a new Police Station at Ormeau

Our local State member, Margaret Keech MP, is sponsoring a petition to construct a new police station at Ormeau. A new police station would improve available police response in the Coomera-Beenleigh area.

You may not be aware, but the Coomera Division (which includes the Oxenford NHW area) covers from 
the Helensvale Westfield Shopping Centre north to the Pimpama River and from Mt Tamborine to the Broadwater. The next police station north of the Pimpama River is Beenleigh.

A police station at Ormeau would reduce the size of the Coomera Police Division, providing more 
officers to the Oxenford, Helensvale, Coomera area and a faster response in emergencies.

Anyone who is a Queensland resident can sign a Queensland Parliament E-petition, not just residents
