HUNT FOR GUNMAN ON THE GOLD COAST

The dog squad has been called in to search for a gunman, after a man was shot in the leg late this afternoon at Pimpama on the Gold Coast.

Police have cordoned off a house after reports a man ran from the scene.

Update: MISSING WOMAN, Upper Coomera

Coomera detectives investigating the disappearance of Upper Coomera woman Novy Chardon are hoping someone may have seen her car (pictured) in Kopps Road, Oxenford before it was discovered in Nerang.

The dark coloured Volvo XC90 4WD wagon with Queensland registration 860LTZ was located parked in Bowden Court, Nerang on February 11.

Police are urging anyone who may have seen the vehicle or anyone associated with the vehicle, on Kopps Road (which runs behind Movieworld and is semi-rural), between 11pm Wednesday February 6 and 6pm Monday February 11 to contact Crime Stoppers.

Mrs Chardon, 34, was last seen on February 6 at a Bridie Drive, Upper Coomera residence.

Police hold grave concerns for Mrs Chardon’s welfare as she has not been in contact with friends or family since her disappearance.

Mrs Chardon is described as being of Asian appearance, around 160cm tall, with a proportionate build, brown eyes and long dark hair.

Slow down at schools

Motorists are reminded the majority of schools on the Gold Coast commence on January 29 and 30. This is a busy period on Gold Coast roads due to the amount of new parents that are dropping their children to school for the first time. Police ask all parents and drivers to take extra care in and around schools and adhere to all parking and speed restrictions. Illegally parking of cars around schools might sound like a minor issue but it can seriously affect the ability of children and parents to negotiate footpaths and roads. Please slow down and drive safely around schools.

Robbery with violence, Helensvale

Police are investigating after a man was assaulted and his car stolen in Helensvale last night.

Around 9.15pm a 20-year-old Oxenford man was driving along Siganto Drive when he observed a woman standing next to a green Ford Falcon sedan on the roadside that appeared to have broken down.

The man stopped and got out of his car to offer assistance to the woman, when two men approached him demanding the keys to his vehicle.

The man tried to run away but was forced to the ground and threatened by the men, before throwing his keys onto the road.

The pair left in the man’s car, a blue 2005 model Holden Avalanche, Queensland registration 488 SRQ.

The woman drove away in the green Ford Falcon.

The man suffered bruising during the incident.

Both men are described as being of Pacific Islander appearance, around 190cm tall, of a solid build, and mid 30s in age.

The woman is described as being of Pacific Islander appearance with blonde hair, in her mid 30’s, around 160cm tall and of a slim build.

Investigations are continuing.

ATTEMPTED CARJACKING

A Woodridge mother placed herself in the path of a car when a thief attempted to steal the vehicle with her 15-month-old daughter inside.

Nicole Frost pulled into her Kingston Road driveway and quickly got out to check the mailbox, leaving the engine running and her daughter - named by Channel 7 as Amelia - inside the vehicle.

By the time she turned around, a man had slipped into the driver’s seat and attempted to drive away.

A police spokesman said Ms Frost chased after the vehicle and stood in front of it to prevent the man moving forward.

He drove towards Ms Frost at low speed and struck her, causing her to fall, before continuing on for 50 metres and abandoning the vehicle on foot.

He was last seen running through a Marlow Street unit complex, however police later confirmed that the would-be carjacker was also wanted over the theft of another vehicle at a nearby petrol station.

The second incident happened just 25 minutes after the car with the toddler on board was taken.

Police say a silver Ford ute was driven from a service station at Springwood, south of Brisbane, while its owner was paying for fuel about 5.15pm (AEST) on Friday.

It was taken by one of two men who had been refuelling a green Toyota sedan with stolen number plates.

The other man stayed with the Toyota and drove off without paying for the petrol.

One of them was been described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance with a slim build and about 180cm tall.

Police have released photos of the pair.

Ms Frost had left her vehicle’s engine running while checking her mailbox about 4.50pm (AEST) when a man ran up, jumped behind the wheel and drove off.

She suffered only minor injuries attempting to stop him and the child was unharmed.
