Gold Coast schools on abduction alert

Posted on 02:51 by Unknown

GOLD COAST schools have been placed on full abduction alert.
The alert has been sent to state and independent schools across the city and parents have been advised in writing of the potential danger.
Teacher supervision has increased and security guards have been hired to shadow school buses after multiple reports of children being stalked by strangers.
It follows a warning to parents by Premier Anna Bligh yesterday to remain vigilant.
The Premier said she had been advised by the Queensland Police Service that there had not been an increase in attempted abductions, but still urged parents to be cautious.
The unprecedented security precaution comes after the attempted abduction of an eight-year-old girl on Tuesday.
The girl had got off her bus at the corner of the Gold Coast Highway and Remembrance Drive when she was grabbed by a man who tried to force her into his car.
The girl said she escaped by kicking the man in the genitals and running off. A comfit of the alleged abductor was distributed to police but not made public.
The attack was the third attempted abduction in three weeks. The others were at Kingscliff on October 9 and Casuarina on October 16.
Police are also investigating reports of a man acting suspiciously towards a 10-year-old girl at Currumbin Waters on Thursday.
