Crime Report

Posted on 22:48 by Unknown
There have been a number of crimes over the last two week period.   The crimes may not be happening very close to your residence/business however we expect that offenders are mobile in vehicles and can easily come to your area in search of new targets.

Please be vigilant and take the necessary precautions to secure your property.

We continue to need your help in reporting suspicious behaviour & vehicles that may help us identify offenders responsible for recent offences.   If you find behaviour, vehicles or persons that you feel are suspicious, without putting yourself in danger, if you are able to get the registration number and a description or even discretely take a photograph of the person(s) & or vehicle with your phone, you can then email the photo and details to DCPC.Coomera@police.qld.gov.au   If you feel that they are suspected of involvement in a crime at that time ring 131444, if you have information and you are sure they are or have just committed a crime please ring police via Triple Zero (000).

STOLEN GEESE

Posted on 21:43 by Unknown
I know this is at Wongawallan but they are our neighbours over the hill and this could happen here as well, so I am sending this alert from Willow Vale NHW:-

John from Wongawallan had 3 of his beloved geese stolen from his property last Saturday 14th April. A tall goose, a small gander and one of her fully grown goslings.
The geese are, as you would know not the normal coloured geese but distinctive black beaks and brown in colour. Not at all common and in fact it’s rare to see them about.

The thieves were in an old style boxy, white Jeep, probably about 1998 model. It was towing a flat car trailer and drove off with the geese in a cage on the trailer before John could get to them.

John believes they must have checked out his property as they knew what they were looking for.

Thanks and remember - Crime Prevention is Everyone's Responsibility.

Leeding murder case set for June

Posted on 18:52 by Unknown

Leah Fineran   |  10:45am April 11, 2012

A TRIO accused of gunning down Detective Senior Constable Damian Leeding have been granted a final adjournment for six weeks.
The police murder case will return to the Southport Magistrates Court on June 6, five days after the one-year anniversary of Det Sen-Constable Leeding's death.
The 35-year-old father of two was shot while responding to an alleged armed robbery at Pacific Pines Tavern on May 29 last year and died in hospital on June 1.
Today in the Southport Magistrates Court police were ready to hand the case up to the Supreme Court.
But lawyers for Phillip Abell, 37, Benjamin Power, 38, and Donna McAvoy, 37, asked for more time to trawl through the 4000+ page police brief of evidence.
The trio are charged with Det Sen-Constable Leeding's murder and other charges including armed robbery.
McAvoy is also charged with a separate armed robbery of the Tallai Country Club.
Magistrate Ron Kilner granted an eighth and final adjournment on the condition the case would progress  in June.
He expressed his concern at the length of time it was taking to bring the case to trial.

"It's like a never ending piece of string, there's no end to it," he said.

Legal Aid barrister Clare Boothman indicated she would call for a selection of the 150 police witnesses to be cross-examined at the next court date.

Police shooting leads to four arrests

FOUR men arrested in a dramatic Brisbane police shooting last night are wanted for more than 150 offences including on the Gold Coast.

The men are being questioned after police cornered their car at Zillmere, on Brisbane's northside, around 9.45pm.

They allegedly drove at police, who fired at the Holden Commodore sedan.

The damaged car stopped a short time later and the men were arrested near Wooloowin State School.

It was discovered one had suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and police say he is now under guard in Royal Brisbane Hospital.

Queensland Police Union general secretary Mick Barnes said the four were being questioned over a spate of crimes stretching from the Gold Coast to Ipswich and Brisbane over a number of months.

They include ram raids, break-ins and other stealing and driving offences, he said.

Mr Barnes praised the teamwork of police, who were alerted to the car by two officers on their way to work.

He said the shooting was in "self-defence".

"It's not a great outcome that a young male is having to be taken to hospital for treatment," he said.

"But you have got to bear in mind these people have no respect for anybody else and it's only through their own actions that police had to do what they had to do."

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED INSTALLING AN ALARM SYSTEM IN YOUR HOME?

Posted on 00:22 by Unknown
In the majority of the reported burglaries to dwellings over this period had been secured however forced entry was made.   The reality is that unless you have full security shutters on all your windows, your home security can be breached by smashing a window.   If you have decent locks on doors it will make it harder for the offender to easily remove items from your property who will then have to get the property out the same way they got in.   The fitting of an alarm system that has an audible alarm as well as a number of internal high pitch squealers is highly recommended.   If the home is then broken into the internal squealers will go off which are very painful to a persons hearing making the offender(s) leave the building immediately.  As a result the offender is generally only able to steal one or two items on the way out (no time to find your secret safe/hiding spot)    The external alarm will also be able to be heard by neighbours and this should make the offender make a hasty retreat as there is now a chance that police will be called and they could get caught.    From reading the latest reported crime it appears that alarm systems were not fitted as the offender(s) had time to search through dwellings and take a large number of items.

The prices of alarm systems are now relatively cheap and you do not have to pay on going costs of having the alarm system monitored by a security company.   Most modern alarm systems now have the capability to ring your mobile phone if the alarm goes off.  Some alarm systems also have the capability to send video footage (if fitted) so you can see if anyone is in your dwelling.   Having a visible alarm system can also be a deterrent to an offender.

Willow Vale NHW now has an email address

Posted on 22:11 by Unknown
An email group has been established through which NHW sends out bulletins of local crimes, with urgent crime alerts circulated and it is also used to disseminate information about the group more generally, including forthcoming activities.

Anyone in Willow Vale can join NHW and then ask be included on the email list.  The emphasis is on encouraging people to be observant and pass on information to the police and/or the Council. People out walking their dogs (or just walking) are out there at all times of the day and often in areas that are not so well used by other residents.

Remember, if it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't.
