Educate, Empower, Protect Our Kids

Posted on 23:55 by Unknown

Bravehearts is Australia’s leading child protection advocacy group.  Founded by Hetty Johnston in 1997, and operating nationally from Queensland, 2012 marks the 16th Anniversary of Bravehearts national awareness day White Balloon Day on September 7th.   Bravehearts is the only Australian children’s charity holistically dedicated to the issue of child sexual assault, and has evolved into an organisation whose purpose is to provide therapeutic support and advocacy services to survivors of child sexual assault.  Bravehearts is forging a movement for change in how child sexual assault is dealt with by the criminal justice sector, government institutions, churches and the community at large.

Bravehearts currently provide counselling services to hundreds of children a year (with a long waiting list due to limited funds) at a cost of nearly half a million dollars per annum.  As well as supporting survivors of child sexual assault, Bravehearts is unique in that they also focus on prevention (through the education campaign) and early intervention, as well as healing and activism.

Bravehearts is Australia’s leader in child protection and we deal exclusively with children who have been sexually assaulted.  As a charity organisation we rely very heavily on business and community support to ensure we can continue delivering our school based prevention programs as well as counselling, support and advocacy for survivors of child sexual assault.  It is only through increasing awareness, preventative strategies and education that we can collectively reduce the incidence of this insidious crime.  Our specialist counselling services are instrumental in giving hope and healing to our most vulnerable and precious members of our community, our children.

If you have any questions about child sexual assault contact Bravehearts
on 1800 BRAVE1 (1800 272 631).

Think of 5 children you know & Love.
Statistically, at least one of them has been or could be sexually assaulted before the age of 18. (Australian Institute of Criminology)
Help us make Australia the safest place in the world to raise A child.
