Slow down at schools

Posted on 01:33 by Unknown

Motorists are reminded the majority of schools on the Gold Coast commence on January 29 and 30. This is a busy period on Gold Coast roads due to the amount of new parents that are dropping their children to school for the first time. Police ask all parents and drivers to take extra care in and around schools and adhere to all parking and speed restrictions. Illegally parking of cars around schools might sound like a minor issue but it can seriously affect the ability of children and parents to negotiate footpaths and roads. Please slow down and drive safely around schools.

ATTEMPTED CARJACKING

Posted on 00:20 by Unknown

A Woodridge mother placed herself in the path of a car when a thief attempted to steal the vehicle with her 15-month-old daughter inside.
Nicole Frost pulled into her Kingston Road driveway and quickly got out to check the mailbox, leaving the engine running and her daughter - named by Channel 7 as Amelia - inside the vehicle.
By the time she turned around, a man had slipped into the driver’s seat and attempted to drive away.

A police spokesman said Ms Frost chased after the vehicle and stood in front of it to prevent the man moving forward.

He drove towards Ms Frost at low speed and struck her, causing her to fall, before continuing on for 50 metres and abandoning the vehicle on foot.
He was last seen running through a Marlow Street unit complex, however police later confirmed that the would-be carjacker was also wanted over the theft of another vehicle at a nearby petrol station.
The second incident happened just 25 minutes after the car with the toddler on board was taken.
Police say a silver Ford ute was driven from a service station at Springwood, south of Brisbane, while its owner was paying for fuel about 5.15pm (AEST) on Friday.
It was taken by one of two men who had been refuelling a green Toyota sedan with stolen number plates.
The other man stayed with the Toyota and drove off without paying for the petrol.
One of them was been described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance with a slim build and about 180cm tall.
Police have released photos of the pair.
Ms Frost had left her vehicle’s engine running while checking her mailbox about 4.50pm (AEST) when a man ran up, jumped behind the wheel and drove off.
She suffered only minor injuries attempting to stop him and the child was unharmed.
Anyone with information has been asked to  contact Crime Stoppers.

Warning as victim loses $120,000 in superannuation fraud

Posted on 02:31 by Unknown

January 16, 2013 at 11:23 am
Police are warning those members of the community with self-managed superannuation and investment funds to be extra vigilant following the arrest of a 35-year-old man with a $120,000 fraud offence.

It is alleged the 35-year-old man gained access to the victim’s superannuation fund and withdrew large sums of money. The victim noticed the problem when he could not gain access to his superannuation account.
Detective Superintendent Brian Hay of the State Crime Operations Command’s Fraud and Corporate Crime Group said people who manage their own investments and accounts need to be extra cautious.
“While we focus quite heavily on internet scams and securing your identity online, sometimes we forget scams like this can occur from old fashioned mail theft.
“Someone may steal your bank statement out of your mail box and use those details to gain access to your money.
“Consider online statements, but when moving to an online source, do not respond to emails from banks or funds requesting you update your password or details and go the extra mile and do further checks when contacted by your institution.”
The 35-year-old man has been charged with one count of fraud and one count of deal with identification particulars.
He will appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court today.

UPDATED ALERT - REGGO NEEDED :

Posted on 22:30 by Unknown

If you see this van - call Coomera Police 55195555 and ask to speak to Crime Prevention. We WILL get this reggo!

REPOSTED from Dominique. originally posted on Oxenford Community page "Hi Everyone,  just wanted to ask everyone to be on the look out for a black van with dark tinted windows, newish van. It has a white sticker which is diagonal on the back window, we need the number plate to provide to police along with current descriptions. Thank you, seen Wednesday at Maudsland and also again today in Maudsland. Would appreciate if everyone can keep their eyes out and grab the plate numbers.

We received a visit from this van late last Wednesday night, they came all the way up the drive way believing no one was home, reved the van a few times to get it all the way up the sloping driveway (no vehices at the front of the house) and lights out, I believe they saw me and took off, they were seen again yesterday checking out an open garage and its contents until the occupants of the home saw them and they drove off, van never seen in that dead end street before. If we can obtain the rego number it will make it easy for the police to have a chat with the owner/ occupants of the vehice about suspicious behaviour. Given recent events in the area, its very concerning.

The van is a newish looking black van, it is quite a bulky looking van so not a little hiace or anything, the van is very distinctive with black paint, bulky look, with extremely dark tinted windows and white sticker on an angle across back window, was easy for residents in other streets to know it was the same vehicle once they spotted it, sorry I wish I could provide more but as you know these things all happen so quickly."

myPolice - from the Commissioner's Desk Message from the Commissioner

Posted on 04:41 by Unknown
To say it has been a huge week in the Queensland Police Service is an understatement.
It is a testament to the resilience of the organisation that we haven’t lost sight of the core duties of making Queensland safer and more secure.
Many members are coming to terms with job losses, struggling with the implications for them personally and their work units within the proposed new structure.
I want to acknowledge the great work, loyalty and commitment shown by our sworn and unsworn staff.
Hopefully the information provided over the past week has helped members come to terms with why the Service needs to change now, the key issues confronting the organisation and the considerable amount of work undertaken to determine the proposed new structure and models regarding the ways in which we will operate.
There will be no fewer police as a result of this restructure. There will be more police on the street and more close supervision and management at a frontline operational level.
The changes will actively reinforce the principles put in place by the Fitzgerald report all those years ago.
It would be my preference that we did not lose any current member but the fact is we are required to find ways to provide increased value for money for each dollar of taxpayers’ money.
While I regret having to implement any redundancies the proposed restructure will enable the QPS to continue to provide the service that the community and Government expects of us.

THE FOLLOWING IS HAPPENING IN MANY AREAS AT PRESENT, PLEASE BE ALERT AND NOTIFY POLICE SHOULD THIS HAPPEN TO YOU.

Posted on 04:40 by Unknown
Yesterday a lady called Jackie posted on the Oxenford NHW Community Page, as follows:
"We had a knock on our door last night from a suspicious person with a dog asking if the dog was ours. She seemed to be trying to get a really good look inside our house. We actually have 3 dogs which were barking at her at the time. She was a teen with long brown hair, skimpy clothing and was rude enough to blow a big puff of her cigarette smoke into our house. She was obviously mapping our street to see who is home and who is on holiday's.....be on the look out, we live in Pacific Pines and back onto Binstead Way. We had an attempted break in at our house around 4 months ago and the robber's successfully entered our neighbour's house and stole goods. We have alerted police and hopefully will be getting some extra patrols."

This post went 'viral’ with over 500 'shares' and many comments. It seems this type of m.o. by 1 or 2 teen girls (often with a dog) is happening in Ormeau, Highland Park, Helensvale and in Upper Coomera too (behind St Stephen's College) - for example Tina in Upper Coomera posted as follows:
"We actually had 2 teenage girls knock on our door last night (7/1/13) at about 11:30pm asking for directions out of our street as apparently they had been in trouble with the police... They seemed quite odd as well but I live in Upper Coomera behind St Stephens college."

A lady called Judy - living in Northfolk Village - Ormeau posted:
"I just wanted to share this because I could have written this myself and I am in Ormeau. A girl with the exact same description knocked on my door about a week ago and asked exactly the same thing. However I didn't report it cause I didn't think too much of it at the time....."

Rebekah in Highland Park posted:
“Last week a girl about 16 or 17 come down my steep driveway asking if she could wash my car.. I was at the back if the house at the time vaccumming and my front door was closed but she had continued to knock, I answered and she asked if she could wash my car, I seemed a bit puzzled and said no, my car was parked down by the front door about 5 feet from the door, she stopped, went right up to my car after I said no and cupped her hands around her face to see in my tinted windows right up close. I asked what she was doing but she walked away. I've never seen her in my street before and I thought it was weird so I actually mentioned it to some other people. But strange for a girl of that age to be asking if people want their cars washed? This was actually in Highland Park .”

Police are aware of these incidents.
